The Centre for Excellence in Mathematical Biology (CEMB) at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), in collaboration with the Department of Biosciences, organized a one-day Workshop on Mathematical and Computational Biology on April 5, 2026, at the Prasanthi Nilayam Campus in hybrid mode.
Designed for undergraduate students of the B.S. Artificial Intelligence and Computational Biology programme, the workshop featured two distinguished speakers. Prof. Philip K. Maini (University of Oxford) highlighted the role of mathematical models in understanding complex biological systems and shared insights from his research on collective cell motion. Dr. Mohit Kumar Jolly (IISc, Bangalore) addressed key challenges in cancer biology, focusing on metastasis, treatment resistance, and the application of systems biology and computational modelling in advancing therapeutic strategies.
The sessions were highly engaging and offered students valuable exposure to cutting-edge interdisciplinary research at the interface of mathematics, computation, and life sciences.
