ROLE OVERVIEW

Strategically lead and digitally transform the Institute’s library system to meet the evolving academic and research needs of students and faculty. Oversee administration, budgeting, and staff, while fostering a peaceful, values-aligned environment that promotes a strong research culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a long-term vision for the Institute’s library system, ensuring it meets the academic and research needs of students and faculty.
  • Administration & Budgeting: Oversee the library budget, procure new books, journals, and e-resources, and manage subscriptions efficiently.
  • Digital Transformation: Drive the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including the digitization of archives, implementation of RFID technologies, and expansion of the digital library.
  • Staff Supervision: Lead, train, and manage library staff (Deputy Librarians, Assistant Librarians, and library assistants) across all campuses.
  • Academic Integration: Collaborate with faculty to ensure library resources align with the curriculum and promote a culture of reading and research among students.
  • Values Alignment: Foster a peaceful, disciplined environment within the library that reflects SSSIHL’s core values and ethos.

    • Participation in curricular, co-curricular activities
    • Mentor students in academic and career development, including research guidance.
    • Support student engagement in competitive exams, innovation challenges, and extracurricular activities.
    • Participate in NAAC-related data collection activities
  • Strategic Vision and Unified Leadership: A senior Librarian with a Ph.D. and over a decade of experience will design and execute a long-term strategic roadmap, unifying the four campus libraries under a single, cohesive administrative umbrella.
  • Driving Digital Transformation: A Level 14 professional brings the technical expertise required to overhaul the library’s technological infrastructure, transitioning it from a traditional repository to a modern, digitally integrated knowledge hub.
  • Academic Integration: A senior Librarian acts as an academic bridge, collaborating directly with Deans and Heads of Departments to ensure that library acquisitions strictly align with evolving curricula, cutting-edge research needs, and SSSIHL’s unique integral education philosophy.
  • Capacity Building: The University Librarian will systematically train, guide, and reorganize the existing library staff, elevating the standard of service from mere clerical issuance of books to comprehensive research assistance and information literacy.
  • Teaching and Curriculum Design: As a professor-equivalent role, the Librarian is expected to be actively involved in teaching and designing curricula in Library Information Science and related areas. This encompasses developing graduate-level courses and library literacy programs, structured either as a minor or as a separate degree program.
  • Research Output: The University Librarian will be expected to produce and publish high-quality research papers in interdisciplinary areas, such as library management.
  • Community Outreach: In alignment with the institution’s broader perspective, community outreach is a vital aspect of the role, requiring the Librarian to lead initiatives that extend library resources and programs to the wider community.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A Ph.D. degree in library science/information science/documentation /archives and manuscript-keeping. Master‘s degree in Library Science, Information Science or Documentation Science or an equivalent professional degree
  • At least 20 years of experience with ten years of teaching as Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor in Library Science or ten years‘ experience as a College Librarian with a proven record of innovative library services, including the integration of ICT in a library.
  • Good academic performance in relevant fields from a recognized University/ Institute. Master’s degree with at least 55% (50% in case of SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/PWD).
  • Research-oriented mindset with publications in reputed international journals.
  • Proficiency in English and ability to mentor students effectively
  • Commitment to SSSIHL’s code of conduct and values-based integral education system
