Project Titles

  1. Dynamical Systems Modelling of Tumour Immune Interactions with respect to Cancer disease
  2. Mathematical Modelling and Machine Learning for Multi-Pathogen Diagnostics and Epidemiological Risk Assessment with respect to Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) disease

Project Tenure: 1 year
Fellowship: ₹25,000 per month (consolidated)
Tenure: One year, with possibility of extension based on performance.
Location: Prasanthi Nilayam Campus (Men applicants only)
Maximum Age Limit: 25 years (age relaxation as per Institute norms and guidelines)

DESCRIPTION

Project 1 – Computational Oncology (Tumour–Immune Modelling)
Development of nonlinear ODE models for tumour immune interactions within the tumour microenvironment, incorporating immune cell populations and cytokines. The model will be parameterized using published data and analysed for steady-state stability, bifurcations, and tumour immune reproduction number R₀ to identify thresholds relevant to cancer immunotherapy.

Project 2 – Infectious Disease & Co-infection Modelling (AFI Dataset)
Development of data-informed mathematical models for infectious disease transmission and co-infections using clinical, environmental, occupational, and demographic factors from Acute Febrile Illness (AFI) datasets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review literature and assist in the formulation and implementation of nonlinear ODE systems using MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Perform stability analysis, derive reproduction numbers, conduct bifurcation analysis, and analyse parameter thresholds.
  • Generate simulations, phase portraits, time-series plots, sensitivity analyses, and contribute to reports and manuscripts.
  • Clean and preprocess AFI clinical datasets and conduct exploratory statistical analysis.
  • Develop and refine compartmental models (SIR/SEIR and extensions), estimate parameters, validate outputs, and perform epidemiological analyses.
  • Contribute to documentation, visualisation of results, progress reports, and research publications.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Minimum 70% marks (or 7.0 CGPA) in any of the following:

  • 4-year B.S. Degree in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics or related Mathematics discipline from a recognised Indian University/Institute.
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics or related Mathematics discipline from a recognised Indian University/Institute.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO

  • CSIR-UGC NET / GATE / JEST or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong background in dynamical systems and optimal control theory.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB or similar simulation software.
  • Good communication and scientific writing skills.
  • Appreciation and willingness to live a disciplined life as per the code of conduct of SSSIHL based on the human values enunciated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

NOTE

The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project tenure. The selected candidate will have no right to claim permanent employment under SSSIHL and no claim for benefits beyond those specified.

Academic Advantage: The selected candidate will be encouraged to enrol in the regular Ph.D. programme of SSSIHL, subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria and Institute requirements.
