The Department of Management and Commerce & IQAC, SSSIHL is organising an online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Financial Modeling using Excel VBA, R, and AI Tools.

This online FDP is open to Faculty Members of Business Schools/Colleges/Universities across India offering MBA, MMS, MS in Finance, M.Com and the related UG courses.

The objective of this FDP is to support the professional growth of faculty members by equipping them with the necessary skills to incorporate technology into their teaching methodologies effectively. By doing so, the program aims to cultivate an engaging learning atmosphere that inspires students and encourages them to comprehend and utilize the concepts being taught. Specifically tailored for college educators, this FDP will prioritize the transmission of practical skills and knowledge to better meet the needs of the academic setting. This program is designed to enhance understanding of financial modeling using Excel-VBA, R, and AI.

Duration: This online FDP is from 20.05.2024 to 04.06.2024 between 6 pm to 8.30 pm on all days excluding Sundays.

Kudos to the SAIOHM team from the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, SSSIHL, Anantapur campus for winning the Second prize in the Novelidea/Product showcasing session at “FortiSF2024, a Workshop for FRK Manufactures & Blenders and a Symposium on Technological Advancements in Staple Food Fortification” on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024. The event was organized by the Innovation Hub on Rice Fortification (IHRF), Agricultural and Food Engineering Department of IIT Kharagpur.

Their winning presentation, titled “Poshak+ – Double fortified red rice high-protein fudge/burfi,” led by Prof. N. Srividya and supported by research scholar Ms. Sai Sruthi Shree, captivated the audience with its innovative approach. The presentation highlighted the novelty, scientific rationale, and distinctive features of their fortified red rice formulation, showcased through aesthetically packaged product. In addition to the accolade, the team was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 3000.

Furthermore, their paper titled “Nutritional Evaluation of Bioprocess Based Fortified Indian Traditional Pigmented Rice Varieties to Address Iron Deficiency Anemia,” presented by Ms. Sai Sruthi Shree, garnered further recognition during the technical session-4 on ‘Nutrition and health aspects of fortified staple foods,’ earning her a certificate and a memento.

The expert panel members lauded the team’s efforts and encouraged scaling up the project through collaborative ventures, underscoring the importance of their pioneering work in addressing nutritional challenges.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DMACS), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) organized a 5-day transformative workshop titled “Innovate 360 – Unveiling the Power of Data Science, Computing, and Beyond,” from 12-16 February 2024 at the Muddenahalli Campus. This week-long convergence brought together intellects, ideas, and cutting-edge technologies, showcasing the dynamic landscape of data science and computing. The event not only assembled experts but symbolized a collective effort to unravel the potential at the intersection of technology and human ingenuity. “Innovate 360” pushed the boundaries of what was deemed achievable, promising a journey into new realms of possibility.

On the morning of March 13th at 8 a.m., viewers tuned in to both DD National and DD Bharti channels to witness Dr. Balaram Khamari discuss his passion for microbial artistry.

Invited as a guest expert in the Art and Culture segment (Srijan) of the DD Morning Show, Dr. Balaram Khamari, Asst. Professor, Biosciences, engaged in an enlightening conversation with anchors Vironika Sharma and Roma Pandit.

During the interview, Dr. Balaram delved into the intricacies of microbial art, sharing insights into its uniqueness, his inspirations, the scientific underpinnings, the creative process, as well as the challenges and precautions involved. He also shed light on how his journey as a microbial artist has shaped him as a scientist and educator, while also discussing his future aspirations and the significance of this art form.

A distinguished alumnus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Balaram, earned his B.Sc. (Hons) degree in 2014 and achieved his M.Sc. with distinction, receiving a Gold medal in 2016. Progressing further in his academic journey, he successfully obtained his Ph.D. in 2021. Presently, Balaram serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences at the Brindavan campus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. His accolades include securing 2nd place in the prestigious Agar Art contest organized by the American Society for Microbiology in 2020, with his masterpiece titled ‘Microbial Peacock’.

Furthermore, Dr. Balaram’s expertise in microbial artistry garnered attention beyond borders, as he was featured on the History TV18 channel’s popular show, ‘OMG! Yeh Mera India’, in 2022.

Exploring Agar Art: Where Science Meets Creativity

Ever wondered about the mesmerizing world of Agar art? Agar, derived from seaweed, serves as the canvas for microbial artists like Dr. Balaram. By cultivating microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast, fungi, or protists in aesthetically arranged patterns on Petri plates, Agar art transforms science into captivating visuals.

Under the umbrella of ‘Sci-Art’, microbial artistry blends scientific precision with artistic expression. Through careful inoculation and incubation, microbial colonies grow to form intricate patterns and designs on the Agar plate. The vibrant hues of the microbes lend their colors to create stunning visuals, making each piece a masterpiece of both science and art.

We congratulate Dr. Balaram Khamari for his remarkable achievements and contributions to the world of microbial art. As he continues to inspire with his creativity and expertise, we eagerly anticipate many more accolades in his illustrious journey ahead.

We are delighted to inform you about a remarkable achievement by one of our alumni!  Naga Teja Mariyala has recently attained the designation of Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) in an impressive timeframe of just three years. Notably, he has also been honored with the prestigious Principal Financial Group Award, the gold medal, for his outstanding performance.

The Principal Financial Group Award has been designated since 2013 for actuarial students who achieve associate status in less than three years. Remarkably, Naga Teja is the first recipient of this esteemed award. He was given this award on 12th Feb 2024 as part of the Global Conference of Actuaries in Mumbai. We thank Sri Arunachalam, the IAI president, and his team for recognizing Naga Teja.

Naga Teja’s success is a testament to the quality of education and the nurturing environment provided by Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL). We take immense pride in his achievement and celebrate his dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

Naga Teja also guides students at SSSIHL in the capacity of Visiting Faculty as part of the SSSIHL Center of Excellence for Actuarial Data Science.

Five students doing their Master’s programme at the Department of Languages and Literature (DLL) – English, SSSIHL, presented their papers at the International Conference on Translation and Multiculturalism, held in hybrid mode from 20th to 22nd of February 2024, organised by the Department of English, VSSD College, Kanpur in collaboration with ELTAI (English Language Teachers’ Association of India).

The students were guided to write the papers by Dr. Vijayalekshmi Ramachandran, Assistant Professor, DLL, and course instructor for Translation Studies.

The papers presented were:

• “From Text to Tee: Navigating the Intertextual, Intersemiotic and Intermedial Course from the Bhagavad Gita to The Legend of Bagger Vance.” by Meghana Srinivas Mandalappu
• “Sita Devi to Lady Sita: A Tradition in Translation/ Transition” by Sattyasri Gururaghavendran.
• “Gained and Lost in Translation: A Case Study of Tamang Selos in Nepali” by Yadha Lama. The paper questions the very notion of the Tamang Selos as exemplifying a smooth journey of restoration and happy hybridization and views Tamang Selos in Nepali as exemplifying the paradoxical case of a culture being preserved through the act of translation while a language being lost through this very act.
• “Muna-Madan and Romeo and Juliet: A Case Study of Cultural Translations” by Pem Doma Sherpa.
• “Translation of Metaphors, the Language of Movies: Images and Affect in Kannathil Muthamittal” by Sai Priyadarshini S.

The Chairperson and Moderator of the Session expressed their appreciation for all the papers. We congratulate all the students for their outstanding efforts and wish them continued success in their academic pursuits.
