Prof. Rajni Bhandari graduated with a B.Sc. Ed. degree from the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore (formerly Regional College of Education, under NCERT), and went on to complete her M.Sc. Ed. in Chemistry from the same institute in 1992. Soon after, she joined the Department of Chemistry at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) as a faculty member. During her tenure, she pursued and completed her doctoral research, earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from SSSIHL in 2010. She has also served as the Head of the Department of Chemistry.
