Prof. S. Balasubramanian is an accomplished teacher and an avid researcher with expertise in Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML), particularly in the area of computer vision. His research contributions include an oral presentation at the prestigious International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR 2020), one of the world’s leading conferences in deep learning. He has authored numerous publications in the fields of machine learning and deep learning for computer vision. His research interests also extend to the mathematical foundations of deep learning, with a particular focus on the applications of differential geometry to deep learning.
He graduated from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics in 1999 and subsequently completed his Master’s degree in Mathematics. He went on to earn his M.Tech. in Computer Science from SSSIHL in 2003. In 2004, he joined the Institute as a Lecturer while simultaneously pursuing doctoral research in Medical Image Processing. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2008.
Prof. Bala currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DMACS), SSSIHL. In addition to his academic and research responsibilities, he serves as the Associate Dean (Academic Affairs) and the Coordinator of the IQAC, contributing significantly to academic planning, quality assurance, and institutional development.
