
National Sports Day Celebrations 2025
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) celebrated National Sports Day 2025 with great fervour across its campuses from 29–31 August 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The events reflected the values of fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a vibrant display of sporting spirit.
Prasanthi Nilayam Campus
The celebrations spanned three days and included a wide range of sporting events. The inaugural day began with a spirited banner run and the National Sports Day pledge, reaffirming commitment to health and sportsmanship. Highlights included:
- Teachers’ 100m Fast Race – showcasing enthusiasm and inspiring students.
- Volleyball Matches – student teams (Dhyan Chand Warriors vs. Milkha Singh Challengers) and a student–teacher match, building camaraderie.
- Ball Badminton & Basketball (Day 2) – spirited contests between student and teacher teams, marked by agility and teamwork.
- Cricket Matches (Day 3) – featuring students, research scholars, and non-teaching staff, with exciting displays of batting, bowling, and fielding.
- Football (3×3 and full teams) – energetic student matches highlighting discipline, skill, and coordination.
The events concluded with a prize distribution ceremony celebrating participation and excellence.
Anantapur Campus
The Department of Food and Nutrition, in collaboration with the Fit Food Club, hosted an impactful talk on “Strong, Active, and Well: Fitness Essentials for Every Woman” by alumna and eminent sports nutritionist Dr. Geetanjali Bhide. She emphasized the importance of women’s fitness across life stages, the dangers of sedentary lifestyles, and practical fitness strategies including yoga, resistance training, and circuit routines. The session ended with an engaging Q&A and reflections on holistic health, embodying Bhagawan Baba’s message of Pushti and Santushti (nourishment and contentment)
Brindavan Campus
The celebrations combined reflection and competition, beginning with a morning assembly, Sarva Dharma prayer, and pledge, followed by a talk on Major Dhyan Chand’s life and a video on Indian sports. Highlights included:
- Basketball Final (29 Aug) – Subhash Chandra Bose Fighters defeated Bhagat Singh Warriors 20–7 to win the Major Dhyan Chand Trophy.
- Teachers’ Cricket Match – Lala Lajpat Rai Lions defeated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Patriots in a thrilling contest.
- Cycle Rally (30 Aug) – a 14 km rally with 35–40 students promoting fitness and sustainability, reinforcing the value of eco-friendly lifestyles
Nandigiri Campus
Students and staff observed the day with enthusiasm through Futsal competitions and Cricket matches, testing agility, coordination, and teamwork in a high-energy atmosphere. A Sports Day pledge was taken, reaffirming commitment to discipline, teamwork, integrity, and fitness. The celebrations brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, fostering unity and joy in sports
