The Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences hosted “Culinary Clicks – A Workshop on Food Styling and Photography Basics” to enhance participants’ skills in capturing the artistry of culinary creations, on 3 February 2024.
This workshop organized by Prof. N. Srividya, DFNS, featured insights from certified Food Photographer, Mrs. Sai Aditya, the workshop instructor, who shared tips on setting the scene, mastering camera techniques, and the art of post-processing the pictures.
The well-structured event garnered excellent feedback from participants, who expressed immense satisfaction with the workshop’s organization and the valuable content presented. This flavorful experience ignited a newfound passion in the participants for showcasing the beauty of food through the lens.
Five students of M.B.A. from the Anantapur women’s campus had the opportunity to participate and present their papers at the prestigious 3rd International Marketing Conference (iMARC III) hosted by IIM Shillong on 30 & 31 January 2024 with the theme “Marketing Transformations: Reimagine, Realign & Rework”. The conference witnessed 254 submissions, with 234 registrations and 158 presentations, from both academia and industry professionals, on over 23 sub-themes.

International Marketing Conference (iMarC) is an annual International referred marketing conference of IIM Shillong started in 2021. The 3rd International Conference in Marketing aimed to provide a platform for all marketing researchers and professionals from academia and industry to come together to discuss and deliberate on the current marketing transformations. The conference showcased groundbreaking research and innovative ideas from experts and scholars worldwide.

Dr. B. E. Pradeep, leading the AMR Lab at Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL), is a driving force and the beacon of collaboration and innovation in the battle against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). His instrumental role in
developing and globally validating AMRxTM, a groundbreaking AI-enabled Digital Diagnostic tool in collaboration with SCIINV Biosciences, has been pivotal in addressing the urgent need for effective AMR containment.
At the recent AI for Pharma & Biotech workshop startup showcase, hosted by the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) and Science Gurus (USA) at the University of Hyderabad, Dr. Pradeep and SCIINV’s collaboration garnered recognition.
Dr. Pradeep, on behalf of SCIINV Biosciences, received the second-best startup award from Dr. Manni Kantipudi, CEO of Aragen Life Sciences. This accolade underscores the importance of academic-industry partnerships in advancing healthcare innovation.
The partnership between Dr. Pradeep and SCIINV Biosciences has propelled the development of AMRxTM, addressing critical global challenges posed by AMR with groundbreaking solutions.
The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning’s Centre for Excellence in Mathematical Biology (CEMB) is dedicated to utilizing mathematical innovation for societal betterment, with a specific focus on providing cutting-edge solutions for public well-being. The centre aims to leverage mathematical modeling and analysis to generate practical solutions that significantly impact society. CEMB is committed to translating scientific knowledge into tangible applications, striving to benefit humanity.
As part of its initial initiatives, CEMB has taken on the responsibility of conducting conferences/workshops/certificate and training programs to enhance the country’s capacity in Infectious Disease Modeling.
In alignment with this commitment, CEMB is offering an online Certificate Program in “Infectious Disease Modeling” with 9 modules.
The program will be led by experts from reputed institutions such as NIT Warangal, IIT Indore, CURAJ, IITM Gwalior, IIT Roorkee, IISc Bangalore, IIT Kanpur, and SSSIHL.
Who can apply? This certificate program is open to students pursuing their Master’s program, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, faculty, and industry professionals.

As part of its initial initiatives, CEMB has taken on the responsibility of conducting workshops to enhance the country’s capacity in Infectious Disease Modeling. In alignment with this commitment, the first formal activity after the establishment of the center was the organization of a workshop on Infectious Disease Modeling.
Under the leadership of Dr. D.K. K. Vamsi, Coordinator for CEMB, this workshop was specifically tailored for the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the School of Chemical Engineering and Physical Sciences, Lovely Professional University (LPU).
The Department of Languages and Literature (DLL) – English, Anantapur Campus organised an online Guest Lecture on 20th January 2024 by Dr. Anhiti Patnaik on the topic, “Dominant, Residual, and Emergent Cultures in Harry Potter” for the students of MA (English) and BA (Advanced English) as a part of students’ capacity building programme. The speaker introduced the concept of Raymond Williams’ ‘Cultural Materialism’ by placing it within the framework of the Harry Potter series, the magical cultural sensation created by J.K. Rowling and later owned and taken over by fans. Using the dynamic diachronic approach advocated by Williams, Dr. Patnaik applied the three categories of culture, namely, the Dominant, Residual, and Emergent that evidenced themselves within the Harry Potter universe. She undertook a diegetic analysis of the books too, thus delving deeper into the story and demonstrating culture wars happening in the realm of characterization. Dr. Patnaik also brought in the perspectives of cultural theorists and scholars such as Stephen Greenblatt, Simone Murray, Henry Jenkins, and Vandana Saxena. In her interactive talk, Dr. Patnaik kept the audience engaged and enchanted as she presented her case with instances rooted in popular culture.
Dr. Anhiti Patnaik, Assistant Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, completed her PhD in Cultural Studies at Trent University, Canada on the Ontario Trillium Scholarship awarded to the best-qualified international students. Before pursuing her PhD at Trent, she completed her MPhil in English Literature at the University of Delhi. She was a Silver Medalist for her MA in English at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and was awarded the prize for the Best Student in English at Lady Shri Ram College for Women where she completed her BA (Hons). She was a recipient of the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching Assistance at Trent University. Dr. Patnaik was a Fellow of The School of Criticism and Theory, at Cornell University and The Institute of World Literature, at Harvard University.
On January 26, 1950, India officially became a republic with the enactment of its constitution. The 75th Republic Day was joyously observed across our campuses, serving as a poignant reminder of the visionary contributions of our constitution’s framers, the democratic principles that define our nation, and our enduring commitment to the well-being of our country. The national flag was proudly unfurled at all our campuses.
At the Prasanthi Nilayam campus, Professor B Raghavendra Prasad, the Vice-Chancellor, hoisted the national flag and addressed students on the significance of the day. A stirring performance by the brass band and the Department of Music filled the atmosphere with patriotic fervor.
Group Captain K R Narayan, an esteemed alumnus who served the Indian Air Force for over three decades, presided over the festivities at the Muddenahalli campus. After unfurling the national flag, he delivered a speech to the students on the theme “Bharath: The Mother of Democracy.”
Celebrations at the Brindavan campus were graced by Colonel Arun Bhagra, a retired AGM from SC Railways with over three decades of service in the Territorial Army (Madras Sappers). He shared his thoughts after unfurling the national flag, highlighting how Bhagawan Baba had inspired him to serve the nation. Sri Pulkit Khare, a third-year B.Com (Hons) student, also addressed the gathering.
At the Anantapur campus, Professor N Srividya, the Campus Director, unfurled the national flag, followed by the National Anthem and a parade. The chief guest, Ms. Ridhi Bhalla, an alumna of SSSIHL serving in the Indian Armed Forces, encouraged students to excel and take pride in their Indian identity.
The festivities included the presentation of appreciation mementos to the Hockey teams (National Sports Day Event), acknowledgment of Ms. K Hemasri for excellence in Archery, and recognition of Ms. D Akshitha Parwati, the runner-up in the State Level Tennis competition. Additionally, gifts were distributed to the contingent staff for their contributions to the Annual Sports & Cultural Meet 2024.
National Start-up Day was celebrated on 16th January 2024 at the Sai Hira Global Convention Centre, Prasanthi Nilayam. Organized by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), SSSIHL, the event commenced with Vedam chanting followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and saw several Industry and academic experts on Innovation and Start-ups, alumni entrepreneurs, and seasoned professionals come together to share their thoughts on various topics with the young minds in the audience.
The august gathering was welcomed by Prof. B Raghavendra Prasad, Vice-Chancellor of SSSIHL setting the tone for an insightful day dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Reddanna, an Emeritus Professor from the University of Hyderabad, captivated the audience with a thought-provoking keynote address on the “Role of University in Promoting Start-ups” Dr. R. Venkataramanan, the Founder and CEO of Karkinos Healthcare, shed light on SSSIHL’s pivotal role in cultivating entrepreneurial skills. Mr. Naveen Lakkur, Chief Innovation Coach, shared profound insights into the inseparable nature of technology and innovation, drawing from his book “The Inseparable Twins”.
The event further featured a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Sri Lakshmikant, Co-Founder of Value Craftz Advisors, with esteemed panelists exploring diverse facets of entrepreneurship. Dr. Anshuman Das, CTO, and Co-founder of Labby Inc., shared his captivating “Startup Journey”. Later the IIC Magazine “SRISHTI”, was released by the Revered Chancellor & Vice-Chancellor.
Two exemplary faculty members of SSSIHL, Dr. Murli Ravi from the Department of Physics and Dr. B. E. Pradeep from the Department of Biosciences, were recognized for their outstanding contributions toward innovation. A panel discussion, skillfully moderated by Mr. M Sainath, Executive Director of ICFAI, delved into crucial topics such as adaptability, innovation, sustainability, and more, featuring insights from industry leaders.
The event drew to a close with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Swetha T, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management and Commerce, followed by the Maha Mangala Aarati, symbolizing the culmination of a day dedicated to the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial excellence.
A poster paper titled “Impact of onion-based interventions on biomarkers of diabetes and its complications in diabetic rats- A systematic review” by Prof. N. Srividya, Dept. of Food and Nutritional Sciences, SSSIHL, and her research team consisting of Ms. Mounika Pandey, Ms. Manogna Pathri and Dr. Satyanarayana Labani was selected by the International Diabetes Federation, Belgium for the IDF World Diabetes Virtual Congress 2023. Themed “Diabetes complications and diabetes in crisis” the congress was held from 4th-7th December 2023.
The paper will feature in the e-poster gallery for 90 days after the IDF virtual congress and the abstract of the paper will be published in the April 2024 issue of their official online journal “Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice-DRCP” (A Scopus & WoS indexed journal with a cite score of 10.5).
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an umbrella organization of over 230 national diabetes associations in 170 countries and territories and represents the interests of the growing number of people with diabetes and those at risk. IDF Congresses are a core activity of the International Diabetes Federation, offering a global platform to discuss a broad range of diabetes issues, from the latest scientific advances to cutting-edge information on education, diabetes care, advocacy, and awareness.
The IDF Virtual Congress 2023 featured three dedicated streams offering the latest scientific advances in the management and prevention of diabetes complications. A fourth stream focussed on the impact of natural and man-made disasters on people living with diabetes and the long-term effects of Covid-19.
